If you are struggling with a persistent slice, the first place you should check is your golf grip. The grip controls the rotation of the hands and the orientation of the clubface throughout the swing. A weak grip makes it physically difficult to rotate the face closed at impact, leading to slices.
To fix your slice, you should adopt a stronger grip position:
- Lead Hand (Left Hand for Righties): Place the club in the fingers of your hand, not the palm. When you wrap your hand over, you should be able to see 2.5 to 3 knuckles on the back of your hand at setup. The 'V' shape formed by your thumb and index finger should point toward your trail shoulder.
- Trail Hand (Right Hand): Wrap your right hand underneath, ensuring the palm faces your target or slightly upward. The V formed by your right hand should also point toward your trail shoulder.
This strong grip setup naturally encourages the wrists to release and roll over, closing the face at impact.
